President al-Mashat discusses with the UN envoy outcomes of his visit to Hodeidah

President Mahdi al-Mashat met on Wednesday in the capital Sana’a the special envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen Martin Griffiths.

During the meeting, which was attended by Speaker of the House of Representatives Yahya al-Ra’i and Deputy Head of the National Delegation for Peace Negotiations, Major General Jalal al-Ruwaishan, they discussed the latest developments in the humanitarian situation in Yemen and the outcomes of the UN envoy’s visit to Hodeidah province.

In the meeting, President Al-Mashat hailed the efforts exerted by the UN envoy and his good offices to implement the agreement and alleviate the humanitarian disaster caused by the Saudi-led coalition and siege.

The President reiterated the commitment to implement the Swedish agreement despite the intransigence of the other party and, their disavowal of its obligations and continued daily violations of the cease-fire, most recently targeting the demining team in Hodeidah, which resulted in the killing of Engineer Mohammad Al-Azri.

Martin Griffiths expressed his condolences and those of the United Nations following the martyrdom of a member of the demining team.

The UN envoy also expressed his gratitude to the President al-Mashat for the release of the sick Saudi prisoner noting this humanitarian initiative, which is a vital step during the work on the completion of the file of human prisoners.

He stressed his continued efforts to implement the Stockholm agreements as a step on which a political solution in Yemen can be reached.
