Diplomatic sources said that the prosecutor’s office in Paris is investigating an investigation into the disclosure of military secrets after French media published a secret report prepared by the military intelligence on the use of French weapons in Yemen.

The news agency ” France Presse” on Wednesday, quoting several informed sources, that the investigation was launched on December 13 last on the basis of a lawsuit submitted by the French Ministry of the armies. The sources explained that the General Directorate of Internal Security (a French intelligence agency) is responsible for conducting the mentioned investigation.

The same sources indicated that a person or people who had access to the document under their functional status might have been involved in the disclosure process.

The report (15 pages) prepared by the French Military Intelligence, which revealed its content the new non-governmental organization, DISLOSE, contains detailed information on the weapons that France sent to Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which are participating in the war against Yemen.

Although French officials have repeatedly covered their participation in the Yemen war under the pretext that the French arms supplied to Saudi Arabia and the UAE are used in a limited manner and in defensive operations only outside the lines of the fronts.

However, a number of French media outlets, based on the content of the report (which also includes an assessment of the seriousness of the use of French weapons against civilians), concluded that French arms, such as the heavy Leclerc and the large-caliber Cessars are used In offensive operations against Yemen.

Discovery’s founder, Geoffrey Lepulsi, revealed that at least three journalists who were involved in the investigative report on the subject of the report were summoned to provide intelligence briefings by the coming mid-May.

“The sole purpose of this investigation is to identify sources that have allowed us to complete our professional work with the content of the report,” he said.

“This is a flagrant violation of press freedom,” he added, breaking national legislation on the protection of press sources.

In March 2015, the US -backed –Saudi-led coalition started  a war against Yemen with the declared aim of crushing the Houthi Ansarullah movement, who had taken over from the staunch Riyadh ally and fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, while also seeking to secure the Saudi border with its southern neighbor. Three years and over 600,000 dead and injured Yemeni people and  prevented the patients from travelling abroad for treatment and blocked the entry of medicine into the war-torn country, the war has yielded little to that effect.

Despite the coalition claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi bombers are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.

However, Saudi Arabia relies heavily on the US in its brutal war on Yemen. Washington has deployed a commando force on the Arab kingdom’s border with Yemen to help destroy arms belonging to Yemen’s popular Houthi Ansarullah movement. Washington has also provided logistical support and aerial refueling.
